Hello! I’m Rowan Starr.

I grew up as a Philadelphian suburbanite. I have been doodling and drawing my entire life, and from the moment screen names became available I self-identified as artist to the world. I’m sure there is a piece of paper somewhere from elementary school that even says I wanted to be an artist when I grew up.

I proceeded to study Illustration at the University of the Arts in Philadelphia, graduating with a BFA. I really enjoy drawing and painting, with oils and acrylic holding a special place in my heart!

I’ve been studying the art of tattooing since I was a senior in high school, going to the shop every summer throughout college. I started tattooing at Infamous Tattoo Inc. in Middletown, Delaware, and I couldn’t be more grateful to them for the ability to follow through with my dreams. From there I worked at Central Tattoo Studio in Philadelphia PA, until meeting the love of my life and relocating to New York City. My husband and I live with our three fur babies Foster, Mocha, and Atticus. We spend most of our time doting on them or going on walks, eating ice cream and being silly. We are expecting our newest addition, our Human Baby, in July 2025!

I currently Tattoo out of Inkology Tattoo Art Gallery, NYC. The subject matter I most enjoy tattooing is anything nerd related or nature related! I like to call it ~Flora and Fandom~

 FAQs

  • I am currently a Resident Artist at Inkology Tattoo Art Gallery located at 270 W 36th St., New York, NY 10018.

  • All appointment requests are done through my google form here.

Once you submit a form I will get back to you as soon as possible to discuss details and setting up a date and time for your appointment.

My books are always open and rolling so please submit a request at any time!

  • All of my consults are through email, so please be as descriptive as possible when filling out the google form. This includes being clear about size and placement, and including as much reference as needed to get your point across.

  • No! I do not send designs out before your appointment. There will be time in the beginning of your appointment to go over and make small adjustments as needed to make sure that the design is something you love 100% before going onto your body. If the adjustments require a complete re-draw a new appointment may need to be booked. Please make sure to check out my portfolio to make sure my style aligns with your project!

  • I would prefer it if you did not! While the idea of numbing cream is great (no pain?! I wish it was that easy) the implementation of it is not so great. It tends to make the skin “chewy” or tougher to tattoo, which can lead to some healing difficulties. When you let your body naturally deal with the pain, it numbs itself out over time allowing you to sit better for longer. Imagine going from 0-100 in pain when the cream wears off, that does not sound like a good time for anyone!

  • Something comfy that allows access to the spot you are getting tattooed. If you are getting something on your sternum or back, a loose button-up is a great option (and pasties will be provided if needed). If you are getting something on your hips, a tie bikini bottom is preferred so that the area can be accessed for stenciling and tattooing. A tank top is best for upper arm tattoos.

  • It is customary practice to tip your tattooer for their services, like you would tip a restaurant, bartender, or nail salon. There is no set "rule" for tipping and it is never required but is always appreciated. The cost of your tattoo only takes into account the admin labor required to get you into the chair (emailing, drawing, marketing) while tipping can be a way to show appreciation for the active experience you had in the chair with your artist.

People most commonly tip between 15-30% for their tattoo session, as a lot of of your tattoo costs also go towards your artist paying shop rent, NYC sales & income taxes, and supply costs. Cash tips are always appreciated, but to reiterate, never required.
